House of the Dragon’s action is set up aproximately 200 years before Game of Thrones started. None of the initial legendary series characters are present as they’re not yet born. However , you might be in luck for a Jon-Snow sequel series.
As the name of the series suggests , House of the Dragon focuses on the Targaryen family. This is the family that rules Westeros for 300 years before the “Mad King” Aerys Targaryen was impeached by Robert Baratheon.

Starting at the end
THe series starts with opening credits and an uneasy vibe which leads to expect soon to come chaos. A narrating voice depicts the recent events:
King Jaehaerys Targaryen rule lasted more than 60 years, the longest ever. Both of his sons died so he starts a council to decide who would be the best fit to the throne. There are 2 main contenders: Prince Viserys Targaryen or Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Council leans in favor of the prince though , as they aren’t comfortable with leaving a woman rule. The narrator suggests that Jaehaerys’s end goal also wants to avoid a civil war over the crown.
“The only thing that could tear down the house of the dragon,” the narrator continues, “was itself.”
Skipping forward almost a decade, the narrator describes “It is now the ninth year of King Viserys I Targaryen’s Reign. 172 years before the death of the Mad King, Aerys, and the birth of his daughter, Princess Daenerys Targaryen.”
House of the Dragon sets the stage to King’s Landing after the credits. A silver haired lady is flying down on a dragon. She is the daughter of King Viserys, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. She sort of handshakes with Alicent Hightower , after dismounting the dragon. Alicent is the daughter of Hand of the King Otto Hightower. They go on a walk together through the Red Keep where she enters the chamber of her mother Aemma ( “Emma) Targaryen. Emma is a few weeks again from giving birth. The younger Targaryen mentions that everyone has been talking about the upcoming baby but also that someone needs to take care of the laboring mother.
“You will lie in this bed soon enough, Rhaenyra” Emmea says. “This discomfort is how we serve the realm.”
The daughter answers : “Id rather serve as a knight and ride to battle and glory.”
Later on the show decpits how Alicent tutors Rhaneyra under a Redwood tree yet her focus is not on studying. Knowing her well, Alicent dicloses that Raenyra is always like this when she’s worried. She makes the assumption that Rhaneyra is worried that Viserys’ potential son will overshadow her.
